“Where the seeds land, the soil determines the crop:
The Beaten Path: everyday jobs, the schedule, same sounds, same sights, calculating, learning, thinking, travel, meetings, relationships, details, responsibilities, deadlines, opportunities, and – oh, yes – the Word.
Rocky: Love to hear good news! Truth is always good. Wait – I’m supposed to do these things, also? Practice them at all times? That’s expecting a bit much. Consuming. My circumstances are too difficult. Obeying God is costing me. Time is tight. I don’t think this is going to work. Another day.
Thorny: Sounds like good news. Too good. It’s not practical in a modern world. What if I lose my health insurance or job? What if I can’t pay my bills or the stock market crashes? I’ve saved to buy things, go places, do things. What if I die first? What if . . . ?
Good Soil: Truth. Water to my weary soul. Good news. Good God. Good promises. Good principles. Very hard work. Much faith. Leap into Christ even when I’m afraid. Believe. Train, drilling into details. It looks different than I thought it would. Renewal. Refreshment. Redemption of all things. God is good. I will trust Him. I will obey no matter what my feelings do.
Tend to your soil. That is your work. The seeds you shoot into the ground will grow if your soil is good.
Whoever has ears, let them hear.” *
